    r I've heard this "cheaper to live in Brisbane" thing before but I go up there two or three times a year and, without being too scientific about it, I get the impression that a general shopping trip to the supermarket costs more than in Melbourne. Maybe I'm wrong.

    Houses now cost about the same albeit 10km closer to the city. I think petrol is generally cheaper, dunno about LPG.

    The rates on a house are un-freaking-believable. Not many houses get away with less than $2,000 per year in BCC rates.

    One thing's for certain, people get paid less up there for similar jobs.
