Another quality reply thanks Beng. And on a touchy subject.
As a very amateur punter trying to make a bit of play money on a fickle market, I am torn between two lovers when it comes to Bots and their ways.
There is no doubt the bots primary objective is to make money, and in some respects I see it as a positive when one appears on a share I like. I see it as affirmation of a good investment. But, the way said Bot goes about its accumulation is what doesn't sit comfortably with me. It is at the loss of "someone" and more often than not that "someone" is an amateur punter trying to make an informed decision on a reasonable investment in an attempt to find a multibagger (at least once hopefully). I'm talking trying to turn $1k into $10k, not $100k into $1M. These are the guys that the Bot chews up and spits out, and that is wrong. thanks to modern technology, trading is now accessible to the masses. Not just the well educated, well connected few of yesteryear. I know the ASX is attempting to keep it a level playing field but I honestly feel it is failing.
The Bot issue is far from new. The modern tech mentioned above has contributed to the decrease in cost and thus the increase in Bot activity.

Has anything changed in the past 12 months? I think not. Maybe the legality of it all is easily manipulated to conform such as the ever evolving synthetic drug issue. The law changes, the molecular structure changes to suit the law.
I don't know the answer to all this, I really don't, but I for one have complained to the ASX about it as I see it as blatant, unfair manipulation. If you agree, join me and make a complaint. The ASX rules won't "evolve" unless we help them along through negative sentiment on the issue. Power to the people.... Not the robots.
