1st Application is in the hands of KP to make the call. Once he brushes off his pen, we will atleast understand where the chips have fallen.
2nd Application is an insurance policy due to a couple of reasons. Keeps the application on foot if the first is refused, has other assessment criteria, less complex (doesn't include the variation), also if this is decided it has a 2 month window after a decision for them to make commercial calls (reapply, surrender etc)
2nd application from our perspective is in the "more information" stage for some time now. Could be for a range of reasons but i see it mainly as 2 reasons
1. Advent are still preparing the information to submit
2. Advent don't want to progress this while the 1st application is underway
