Those keen on cobalt should exercise care, especially MT and LT. There's quite a few lithium battery chemistries available now, or in development. The different chemistries result in different battery characteristics.

Battery makers seek end-use qualities they wish to emphasize. Right now Tesla's battery uses a lithium-cobalt composition because it favors the charge-output-life behaviors they want in their cars - range and acceleration above all.

Not all car makers (or consumers) want Tesla-type features. Of other makers in Europe, North America and China, BYD (currently the largest battery manufacturer world-wide) uses lithium-iron-phosphate and possibly soon, lithium-manganese. These variants may still use cobalt as part of the mix to dial in the best performance. Not far away are lithium-sulfur and lithium/graphene coatings.

While used widely now, cobalt does not automatically inherit lithium's current market shortage.

Make the most of cobalt plays right now, but the cobalt market may not follow lithium.

Just my view - yours may differ.
