Well, that's true. Sanity doesn't always prevail. We saw one major political party during the Grexit, willing to turn Greece into a bona fide third world country for the sake of "independence".
As for security, it was definitely the elephant in the room and judging by the voting demographics, is clearly something the bucolic and elderly value. Not so much the younger, tax payers, who will be the ones that have to deal with this for the next 25 years. That's democracy though, so fair play. Beats a dictatorship.
