@cha you’ve stirred up so many memories for me with your post. We had just started a small business in the early’80s and had a couple of gov contracts with AusAID and CSIRO among others. In those days gov were notoriously slow to pay subbies and we were forced to have an overdraft to improve cashflow (around 23% interest!). It nearly sent us broke but somehow we survived. I remember one time when my husband was due to go o/s for six weeks on a work trip and we hadn’t been paid our invoices for nearly two months. He rang and told them he wasn’t going unless the money was in our account within 24 hrs because ‘I am not going and leaving my family to starve’. Needless to say the thousands we were owed appeared rapidly, but you can appreciate what that kind of pattern did to our cashflow!
Am hoping to be more active again on the BT, it’s been a very trying six months! Thanks to those who have continued to post through some very quiet periods.
