I doff my hat to farmers who every year are making HUGE decisions on what to sow, when to sow, finding markets and blow me down casually throw in CBOT trading. This guy is one of the most humble people you will ever meet and tells fascinating stories of life on the land; us city slickers have little idea really. Sadly, he reinforces that he is a "dying breed"; kids understandably leaving rural areas for city/work/uni etc. Farms being sold off and being bought and conglomerated by large faceless corporations etc.
I told him years ago that if you do a risk/reward equation he would have sold up years ago .... but he loves life on the land!
"Salt of the earth" comes to mind.
