When you visit a gold jewelry store here in Asia items don't have a price tag ....they have a gram weight tag and price is calculated according to the gold price on the day.Usually gold price + 5% ......so if you want to sell the item back to the gold shop a week later you can at the gold price less 10% .Compare that to the retail mark up in a jewelry store in Australia where you would find it unlikely that the the jewelry store would be prepared to buy your item back at all and the value of a second hand item would be likely to be less than 50% of its purchase price. I usually just buy gold bars and gems separately and then have a goldsmith make the item I design .Usual fee for making a complex ring design with two gemstones will be about $80. Perhaps later I will post a few photo of items I have designed and had made.In comparison in 2016 I had a jeweler make an item for me in Queensland ....I supplied the gold and stones and his fabrication charge ....a whopping $900 !
