Things change fast. New technological advances make some things more valuable and other less in what seems overnight. The impacts also can sometimes be hard to foresee and predict - let alone the flow through to other areas.
First car-phones, then the big brief case ones, then cell phones as we know them now (Nokia 3310 anyone?) which we then saw widespread take up throughout the developed world. Screens, battery and data transmission still needed work though.
The first iPhone and precursor to the "smart phone revolution" is yet to have its 10 year anniversary. Comparing the original - which was at the time quite advanced - is still nothing when put against the current models.
Then, you have the iPad. Tablet computers have been attempted for years - these were generally to big clunky and slow for mainstream use. Its amazing to think that the iPad is only 7 years old.
In that time, not only have several much fancier and spec'ed version come to market but dozens of other manufacturers, making thousands of models have proliferated around the world. These devices are orders of magnitude faster, lighter, more powerful and have batter lives even longer. Not to mention, even cheaper.
Worth considering how those two devices (and their respective other brands) have changed societal behavior in under 10 years and the industries they have impacted in enormous ways.
Some food for thought.
