I agree that it does not matter what age - indeed these things are marketed to target the vulnerable- those in financial distress- sick -
However given that she is mid forties it may be easier to present research that highlights the dangers-
I do think it can be more tricky to help a person that was say in their mid thirties- there is a different sort of can do attitude and a lack of life experience- so you may have more hope with a person that is a bit older...
I can see that you have an empathetic approach, and clearly understand the psychology of the situation-
A few laps around some of the stock threads are indeed the best education of how extreme false hope can blind any rational thinking-
Best of luck - stories like this really affect me for some reason- it gives me a lot of hope that there is always those there that take care of their own
