I hear you Umi. I've been researching offshore tax juridictions recently where I could trade from, with the idea of summer in Sydney for just under the 6mth threshold for Australian tax resident status and the rest based overseas. I was nearly on the plane to NZ but I just won a lucrative 2yr contract for my business so full time trading is on hold for a while. However its a very interesting space once you look into it.
You're right, Australia is just a property scheme. Good if you got a secure govt job for cashflow as 50% of Aussies now do and then max leverage that secure flow into property. But not much reward for battling away in a private business let alone trying to be a professional trader/investor.
China I thought had restrictions on visa or something I think but ruled it out anyway. Hong kong is an option though for 7mths of the year with low capital gains tax. But the real winner is the Bahamas. Just off Florida coast, British territory and drive on the left side of the road, torquoise waters and palm trees, friendly hours for ASX trading. No income, capital gains or business tax. Buy a USD$1m apartment gives residency for life whether staying there or not.
So the dream is evolving now, summer in Sydney Oct to Feb, Queenstown for golf season Feb/Mar, a short northern summer in the Bahamas with stops in New York or Vegas, back for 3mths ski season in Queenstown, then back to Sydney Oct.
I need a condo in each location. Can trade and invest completely tax free. I've got two years to set it up.
