I don't know whether this will be good or bad for Telstra, depends what they do with the opportunity.

But for Australians, it's all good. Best decision in a decade. Finally a way to get high speed broadband to everyone. This could even change the population distribution with people no longer having to live in a capital city to get the fastest robust communication links.

And no more monopoly and non-competitive practices, thank goodness, assuming the physical network is separated from the services. (That's where we in the bush have really suffered.)

Eight years is a long time, though. Hope most of it is down well before that time.
