As stated in the article, ABC editorial policies make very clear that it is the job of the public broadcaster's journalists to report "without fear or favour, even when that might be uncomfortable or unpopular".
They reported on one of a range of direct allegations of criminal activity against a prominent figure who, as can be seen in the evidence submitted to the Royal Commission, lived with Australia's most prolific serial paedophile, made sure victims couldn't tell their story, and shifted paedophile priests to other parishes where they re-offended. The prominent conservative figure was supported by conservative PMs, the conservative media controlled by an American citizen, and religious activists. Their attacks were relentless against the ABC, and continue relentlessly.
Well done ABC. That has to be pretty much the definition of "without fear or favour". Incredible guts and dedication on the part of your journalists.
