direct monarchic rule? crikey you'd have us living under the control of a single person who is more likely to be far worse than parliament.
the constitution was created at a time when most MPs were independent and many small parties formed and dissolved rapidly. political parties came to dominate and the duopoly took real control pre-WW2. now we're stuck with adversarial opposition taken literally and instead of parties working together to make better Gov policy, we have stupid competitive slurs and mud-slinging instead of debate. the current mob show exactly the worst and its been that way for more thirty years (really instituted by Keating imo).
independents dominating parliament would engage in meaningful policy discussion and create pragmatic policy without ideological, illogical abuses. this would make for better democracy.
