An abstract titled Comparison of Soft and Rigid Matrices for Wound Healing in a Diabetic Mouse Model was presented at the Innovations in Wound Healing conference held in Florida last week.
The abstract, a joint effort between PolyNovo and CRO, Pro Dev Labs, was selected for presentation as one of the best in class, based on reviewers’ scores.
Data were presented from a delayed healing diabetic mouse model study which compared the wound healing parameters of Novosorb MTX with Integra Bilayer Matrix.
The study found that during the proliferative stage, MTX matrix regulated 39 genes and was tightly integrated into the periwound bed by Day 11, a statistically significant difference from Integra. By Day 21, wounds treated with MTX had achieved complete re-epithelialization whereas the Integra-treated wound healing was incomplete.
The authors hypothesize that the soft, porous, biodegradable MTX matrix provides just the right level of compressive forces on the perimeter of the wound bed to accelerate wound healing by the forming of an intact epithelial layer.
