Yes, in such a case the BTM provides for the rebuild of the dermis and then the epidermis grows back absent a graft or use of spray-on cells. The same thing has been previously reported. What surprised me was the size of the initial wound and extent of healing.
My memory is that the first time I read about this happening successfully was in an early DFU trial a few years ago (10 patients; New York??) where one of the patients failed to return to have the sealing layer of the BTM removed and grafting applied. Eventually it peeled off over time and the outer skin layer was then healed without any intervention.
