It could easily be higher than my estimates but I'm not really worried about price so much . Especially when it's such a long term investment . It's more about the practicality and the suitability long term .

Yes , you could bring units on progressively but that actually complicates the process a bit . You still have common infrastructure components that would still have to be built first . Let's say it took 4 years to start bringing it on progressively ?

The other thing is that they are talking about ' replacing the fleet ' . So it seems that there isn't really a big capacity bonus . A lower emission bonus and some better reliability maybe ?

You can see why I question these claims by the Monash Forum and their fanboys on here . I am not against fossil at all . I dread the idea of Labor winning the federal election and imposing their ideologic 50% renewables by 2030 without any idea of how to do it .
We've had the debacle of SA and now Hazelwood . But fortunately the feds have pulled their finger out and have come up with a plan which I think is reasonable . A steady , sensible transition to renewables . Prices are now under control and should get cheaper over time , especially for business . Retailers are on notice to lift there game . Frydenberg was questioned about this on Insiders . There is no doubt the government is getting involved .

To my mind it is entirely feasible to transition to renewables over a long period . The benefits are lower emissions of things like sulphur , mercury etc . It's not just about CO2 . It is also about price . Mining fossil is only getting more expensive . Renewables have the potential to get very , very cheap . We can also stop digging big holes and using heaps of water in cooling towers . The fossil resource can still be used for other purposes and recycled , thus making it an almost endless supply forever . The investment in the grid modifications and the installation of renewable/storage infrastructure is also a great employer and should stimuale a lot of business . If you want to create a few skilled techical jobs you may as well do it in something that is a really long term investment for the country .

I just hate all the bs that surrounds these subjects . Let's tease out the facts and get on with it .
