IMO, the path to "Multinationalising " by major US corporations starting in the 1960s and was the start of the economic demise of the US Empire which was built by these corporations.
As these corporations moved offshore chasing lower production costs, US exports dropped proportionately & imports increased and the US %age of GDP dropped (see chart below)
Add to that the offshoring of profits by the US Multinationals and you have got the current US phenomenon : -a country up to its eyebrows in debt -US based Multinationals & Billionaires making a Motza!
I can understand why some on these threads simply judge the USA on its Corporations & Wall St & market based values but a country/ empire is more than that.
