IMO, there is a growing fear in the USA of an economically rising China because they all know intuitively that the country with the biggest GDP and accompanying global dominance in manufacturing and trade, will eventually rule the world. History teaches that.
America has had a go at that post WW2 and, up to now, it has been successful. Its gradual loss of manufacturing and trade dominance, however , is now threatening its global hegemony. (They call it "World Order0
Now that we've truely hitched our wagon to Uncle Sam's in his quest to stymie Chinese growth & global power, we are a bunch of nervous nellies too hoping that the US will prevail. This is why there are so many emotive anti-China posts on these threads recently. IMO, hate wont counter China but sound economic planning will and we simply can't leave that to the market that is dominated by foreign multinationals whose sole objective is profit. Many of these multinationals are already embedded in China. They seem to have taken up the Chinese saying about Communism & Capitalism :
"It matters not whether the cat is black or white so long as it catches mice"
The US Nuke subs are, in their own right, not evidence that we're under the US thumb like we were in Galopili under that of the Poms, but with C&C systems embedded in our subs, airplanes & warships that potentially disempowers us from taking any decision in Australia's interest that may vary with the USA's self interest in an emergency, IMO.
In other words we're paying retail for our US sourced military hardware but the USA will have command & control over these assets, IMO. This could lead to a situation that when the chips are down we simply wont have our sovereignty At least the Froggy hybrid subs gave us the potential to be independent ..
We are not allowing the Chinese to supply hardware & software for our 5G project because we dont want to relinquish power to them in an emergency. Similarily, we should not be relinquishing power to the USA by allowing them to be the Aus branch of the US Navy but instead ensure that all our defence assets at all times are solely under Aussie command/control.
