US remained neutral officially until that Pearl harbour attack. Yes, we are grateful for those thugs in Germany & Japan. Unfortunately German's problem was a result of crippling war compensation from WW1 and Japan partially was oil security besides their war mongering strategy.
US spent decades in their back yard central & South America, promoting democracy through violence direct & indirect but the results are mixed, don't you agree. Using violence to promote democracy is analogous to their domestic gun policy, how is that one going?
How about the last 2 decades promoting democracy in Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan and Syria? All functioning failed states in our eyes. Closer to home there were Korean and Vietnam wars, both failed to achieve their objective.
Success though in former USSR which is a big deal for Europe. Mix I would say their approach or war mongering to try and bend others to yield to their image.
