America is a troubled place not because of its Political Economy
but because of the inequities in its private economy.

The Rich are getting richer & the poor are getting poorer
and the working class are holding in there by the skin
of their teeth 4 pay packets away from the breadline.

America has had 140 years since its civil war to get it right
but it has blown that opportunity and simply hung tails on the wrong donkeys.

Its political system has been corrupted by political sponsorship,
lobbying and its news agencies acting more like Right Wing propaganda
machines than "keeping the bastards honest"

The average American has lost confidence in America and that is evidenced
by their begrudging to pay tax (that includes corporations) which has seen
successive Government put the country deeper & deeper into hawk
with nothing to show for it.

Add to that , corporations & wealthy individuals stashing Trillions in tax havens
thereby starving the US economy of investment and you start to realise that
its not about corrupt politicians; the US problem is deep seated in US culture

A variation on the Clinton saying could be:
"Its not the Politicians , stupid, its the System!"
