IMO we should be gearing up to defend ourselves whether that be
fromChina, Indonesia or others instead of relying on the USA who
    have strange attached.

This is why we should be growing our economy and preventing others from
ripping us off so that we can afford to defend ourselves.

It is silly to have over 3o% of the top 500 businesses paying no Aussie
corporate tax. If we tax multinational corporations on their Aussie revenue
and not on their self declared profit, then we can afford to defend ourselves.

If multinationals dont want to pay Aussie tax, then let them go elsewhere
and the business left behind can be picked up by good corporate citizens.

If we tax multinationals properly, then, IMO, Aus can collect at least another
$50 billion a year. Over time this can build a proper defensive system which
will minimise US political "influence" on Aussie Governments.
