IMO the Right has drifted too far Right which leaves the Democrats looking "left"
where in essence the Democrats have always been middle of the road Liberals
with the exception of Roosevelt who had to implement "socialist" policies
during & after the Great Depression to prevent a complete economic collapse
and possibly a Social Revolution.
Kennedy, Clinton & Obama were middle of the Road Libs comparable to
Malcolm Turnbull style of Liberalism.
I assume that what you mean by the "Left"is Socialist which means the
socialisation of industry, big business and the appropriation of some public property
and the Nationalisation of resources.
In Communism, the State owns the lot with a political dictatorship.
This is why China is a bit of a hybrid:
-some private property
-some privately owned businesses (some big)
-State owned key industries
-the CCP which purports to be "representative government in that the CCP membership
is about 100 million out of 1.5 billion (1 billion adults) or 10% while our party membership
that nuts out policies and selects candidates is a lower %age than that.
NB: we have a representative democracy not a democracy as such in that citizens do
not have the opportunity to vote on all legislation like the Swiss of Rousseau # had 300 years ago
