The 20-30% efficiency of an ICE is something people don't take into account when evaluating the economies of Electric (80/85%) versus Petrol. I've known this fact since 1979 when I was doing my trade as an Automotive Engineer and it has always bamboozled me as to how people blissfully ignored this fact and continued to pour wasted dollars into the fossil fuel industry (Not much choice last century). If you were to buy 10 apples for $10 and only 2 or 3 of those apples were edible, you would never go back to that store again, but when it comes to our transport, we are happy to give the oil company $10 for 2-3$ worth of energy. The other 7-8$ goes out the exhaust or is wasted energy (heat) that goes into the radiator. Crazy stuff!

Me? I’ll stick with an inefficient internal combustion engine, that costs me less to buy, can be refuelled in minutes, has an excellent range, and a well established and reliable refuelling network.
