Cadogan admitted charging an electric car remains cheaper if it can be done at home....

'It seems quite odd to me to pay $20,000 more upfront for an EV compared with the cost of an equivalent combustion car if your sole objective is to save money on fuel or anything else...

Was talking to a guy installing 200kw/h fast EV chargers. There are a number of chargers being installed. So, say you have 5 chargers installed and all are being fully utilized, the maximum power you'd get out of each charger is then divisible by 5. Hence whilst being marketed as a 200kw/h fast charging station - in reality if all are plugged in each user would only be able to get around 40kw/h. Thus the time taken to fully charge an 80kw battery would take a tad longer than if it was the only vehicle using the facility and a lot longer still than filling traditional ICE vehicles.

Different EV's have also different charging configurations and the time taken from 80% to 100% needs a longer time frame, since manufacturer's deliberately slow down charging due to wanting to avoid too much heat in the battery thus avoiding thermal issues.

It is true that if one can afford a vehicle costing upwards to $100k (some way more) then why would so much focus be on the cost of charging or even filling with fuel?

And of course, if one can save $20k by buying an ICE vehicle, the money saved will get a good head start in the quest for fuel savings in the first instance plus there would be savings to be had in financing costs due to lower loan levels and more savings as ICE vehicles seem to depreciate less.

And then the issues of EV driver monitoring - which insurers can use to bump up insurance premiums as per below. But of course it's about your safety - or perhaps more the safety of rising insurance costs and more drivers being hit?? rolleyes.png AIMO
