All students of Political Science will have studied Communism, Socialism Representative Democracy, Free Market Capitalism, State Capitalism including hybrid variations.
For example post WW2 most western democracies are Welfare States This was a compromise made to avoid the spread of Socialism . like a political vaccine: give them a slight touch of Socialism and over time they will develop herd immunity.
The delivery of Social Services is a form of Socialism and of course if you add SOEs like we had (Telstra, Qantas, CBA, CCL etc etc) then the system is trending towards State Capitalism or some might say Communism.
Socialism as opposed to Communism is a different kettle of fish: Socialism says that the means of production & distribution is owned by the workers (eg the modern Workers Co-Op) replacing the Capitalists while in Communism the State owns the means of production & Distribution.
So when China says its Country is Socialist with Chinese Characterstics it should read: Communist with Chinese Characteristics because the State owns 50% of Production & Distribution (the balance being owned by private enterprise-Capitalists ...hence the 600 odd Chinese Billionaires)
PS: There are many within the CIA who are experts (PHDs) in Socialism/Communism but it woud be a far stretch of the imagination to say/imply that these specialists were un-patriotic because of that.
