The pointless mess which your buddies have got themselves into is more or less what was predicted. If in fact a majority of americans support the war and the attrocities committed by their (cowardly) troops then that makes little difference to the morality of it and the eventual outcome.

I could laugh or sneer at the fall from grace of the americans who are now regarded as little better than foreign policy baboons, but the overall enormity of it all prevents me.
