I understand your view and agree that the process is how you say it is.
The funds also have a responsibility to their own clients to get returns for superannuation etc. If they started putting in buy orders for a million shares without employing a strategy to hold the price it would rocket. Then plummet on completion. If that's how they did things then their clients may have a justified complaint.
