The conundrum of Health insurance

Hmm... as I will be hit with a medicare surcharge levy 1.5% ...I may as well look at health insurance . Thing is I had a quick look and 4000 options LOL

So I am in the 60+ range and mrs Rebel under 60 ... all sorts of deals etc . A basic cover will cost me under the medicare surcharge .
However in saying that, I know of people who had private and had same hospital admission as someone not private and they had to pay a gap ...

My first quick look HBF Bronze hospital plus will cost me around $3500 a year ..

Hmmm .... what do others have or suggest

Edit... My accountant just told me that I still have to pay the medicare surcharge for the days not covered during the year ... it isnt that you had it prior to fin year ending... misleading what some adverts I have seen ... pushing to take out cover before June 30th...
