Hmmm... I used to receive Richard Coppleson's newsletter in the 1990's when I was a client of one of his former employers.
I recall at the time Mr Coppleson writing at some length - and in most enthusiastic terms - about a little company called Polartechnics (PLT was the stock code).
What ultimately happened to PLT may or may not be relevant to MSB, but what is striking is that PLT raised significant sums of capital over its listed life (which, if I recall correctly) was around 10 years.
And who was the broker who raised the capital for PLT on each occasion?
You guessed it... Mr Coppleson's employer.
Mr Coppleson left that employer some years back, and joined JB Were (which was subsequently acquired by Goldman Sachs). I ceased receiving Mr Coppleson's reports, but because he was such a prolific writer and successful stockbroker, he was often quoted in the financial media and his reports were circulated quite widely.
In all that time, I never once came across a single MSB reference in any of Mr Coppleson's writings... until, of course, quite recently after he had joined Bell Potter, the broker who has handled all of MSB's capital raisings in the Australian market.
Now Mr Coppleson's is, seemingly, quite enamoured with MSB and devotes substantial column-inches in his reports to sharing his new-found enthusiasm with his new employer's clients.
But, I guess, that makes perfect commercial sense from Mr Coppleson's point of view.
But, unlike the PLT case, hopefully in MSB's case, both Mr Coppleson as well as his employer's clients will benefit from his ardour and passion for the stock.
