The goss going around here at the time was that Daddy and Bro were very naughty boys and that Mercedes and her husband were fellow business partners, running things from that end.

It was also rumoured that the Mary Jane had been packed in a vacuum sealed bag (hence no smell or volume). It was also mentioned that, as the boogie board was in the hold of the aeroplane, decompression could have burst the vacuum, hence the size of the boogie board bag which instigated the search by customs.

The reason for sending coals to Newcastle (as they say) was that the pot on Bali was of low grade and that the stuff that was being smuggled was top grade and seeds, etc., could be used to improve future crops over there.

Was mentioned that Schappell was used as the courier as being female and attractive, she would not attract as much negative attention. Also think the brother may have had previous form and would have undoubtedly been searched.

All gossip, but could be some truth in it.
