you appear to have completely forgotten that I was never in favour of weather dependent power generation

not ever.

My early thinking on it was that we should probably toodle along with coal etc but fund the hell out of research into something not western dependent

but I always thought that developing batteries was worth it because going forward there looks to be a forever requirement for storage of some size

times have changed now and decisions are much harder and options more limited

but still - weather dependency is a huge issue
