I completely agree with this, and it aligns closely with how I view discipleship. Being Yeshua’s disciple does require total commitment, as seen in passages like Luke 14:25-33 and Luke 9:57-62. The word "hate" in Luke 14:26 isn’t literal but emphasizes the vast difference between our love and allegiance to Yeshua and everything else, including family, possessions, and even our own lives. This echoes Matthew 10:37-39, where Yeshua highlights the need to prioritize Him above all else.
The illustrations of the builder and the king (Luke 14:28-32) are so significant—they remind us to count the cost of following Yeshua. It’s not about a superficial or emotional decision but about weighing what it truly means to live for Him with single-minded dedication. I believe this kind of commitment ensures we aren’t holding back or trying to serve two masters, as Yeshua warns in Matthew 6:19-24. You can’t serve both YHWH and wealth, and laying up treasures in heaven should always take precedence over earthly pursuits.
The examples of Lot’s wife (Luke 17:32; Genesis 19:26) and Ananias and Sapphira (Acts 5:1-11) are such solemn reminders. Divided loyalty, whether looking back in disobedience or withholding part of our commitment to God, can have devastating consequences. These stories reinforce the need for wholehearted obedience and complete trust in YHWH’s plan.
I really appreciate how this perspective ties into the bigger picture of living out faith. For me, it’s about rejecting materialism, being fully prepared for the cost of discipleship, and striving to follow Yeshua with undivided devotion. Thank you for sharing this—it’s such a powerful reminder of what it means to truly walk in the way of our Savior.
