    never use analyst recommendations in a falling market. Their investment case is based on valuations that use long term average price assumptions and Net present Value calculations

    a BUY recommendation isnt saying 'this stock is intrinsically good to buy right now' - it says 'this stock is undervalued relative to the peer group of other similar stocks I cover as an analyst'.

    thats where Santos sits - its cheap relative to peer group because of crushing debt pressure. Oil price stays low it will crack, raise capital and share price will be smashed because of dilution - oil price surges soon enough though, and it will recover.

    Its in exactly the same spot as Atlas Iron.

    Like Atlas - board is sayign theyll sell infrastructure and that will be the turnaround catalyst. But until they succeed it is just a punt.

    intrinsically STO isnt anything more than a 'speculative buy'
