What I'm suggesting is that the smart people realize that picking the movement in inflation, interest rates and exchange rates is so difficult that they instead rely upon selecting strong companies with strong management, comforted by the fact that such companies will come out the other side of whatever fluctuations occur in the market successfully. Timing the market swings that occur as a result of these external influences (and their are other such influences) is too difficult.
