I'd hate to be seen standing up for the dim one but it was President Teflon back in the nineties who believed home ownership should be attainable for all Americans and set about pressuring the banks into making it possible.
A noble and socially responsible policy.... however due to avarice, competition and regulatory negligence is backfiring big time.
