So in the Greenland election we have Atassut on board in coalition with Siumut. Both pro-mining parties but more importantly for us both pro-uranium. Lovely jubbly=)
So is there a Danish election coming up soon too ? Anyone know when ? I know that *technically* it shouldn't effect us but heh, Denmark is the mothership at the end of the day and also is the location of the most likely resistance to mining uranium aka Greenpeace et.al. Most Danes are quite environmentalist and would be against anything nuclear as far as I am aware so there may be a battle to be fought here yet.
From what I understand the Danes still have control of Greenland's foreign policy and national security. They are on record as saying they cannot stop Greenland mining uranium but they sure as hell can slow it down if they so choose. Signing up to the non-proliferation treaty would have to be done by Denmark on behalf of Greenland so they could drag their feet on it for a very long time if the Danish public come out to protest about it in an organised way. I am not too sure if the feelings on the ground are high enough to warrant protesting Greenland mining uranium a long long way from Danish soil but it is, I think, a possibility holders here should consider.
Of course the lynchpin to all of the above is that it is in Denmarks economic interest to stop the annual subsidies to Greenland. The way that can be achieved is through mining. But that in itself doesn't necessarily mean uranium mining, the Greenland govt might well get enough royalties from iron, copper, zinc mines to make the county self sufficient without having a need to visit the uranium question straight away.
All of the above is my own speculation but I don't think the Danish side of the equation will be as simple as some people might think it is. What are other peoples thoughts on the Danish situation and their role in GME ultimately getting a green light ?
