The amount of manganese that will be used for battery materials is peanuts compared to what is used in steel production. There is currently 25 million tonnes of manganese produced worldwide annually and this is more than enough to feed the steel industry.
The new Mokala mine in South Africa is ramping up right now adding one million tonnes annually. The Tshipi mine in South Africa currently produces 3.1 million tonnes and plans to expand by 50%.
One of the reasons why the Mn ore price is going up currently is the added costs from shipping and fuel which is used for machinery to dig out and transport the ore.
You can be sure if the Chinese think theres a buck in producing battery Mn they'll be pumping it out long before E25 produces its first batch. By that time comes around a new technology will be developed and MN batteries will be old hat.
