With so many companies and research labs working on improving Lithium (and other types) batteries we are only going to see more improvements with safety, capacity and price leading to EVs that are simply better than their ICE counterparts in nearly every way. The big step we are all waiting for is an economically viable, mass produced solid state Lithium battery, once that happens all other types will be redundant and 90% of ICE will be history.
The resulting increase in demand for Lithium will make the early 2020s price spike pale into insignificance because the development of many Lithium deposits (especially the more marginal ones) has been put on hold during the recent slump in prices. It will be very interesting and exciting to see how quickly the miners will respond to the demand, hopefully the lithium price will settle at a point where most mines can be viable without the battery costs being too expensive.
