You make a good point that even if SS has double the energy density of any other battery it is the cost per kWh that is the most important factor in the majority of EVs. Since SS will need very pure lithium metal for the anode and there will be many years of R&D expenses to recover, it's likely that cost per kWh will initially relegate it to high end models. Given a bit of time and healthy competition it should drop to a more reasonable level and even (God forbid) Sodium may even use SS construction to move in on the lower end of the market where some of the entry level Chinese models are dallying with Na Ion batteries now.
