Do you know how to make magnesium?
China uses the Pidgeon method which is a very power intensive process. The reason why magnesium has gone up 600% is because ferrosilicon the main input has gone up 400% in 12 months, plus the cost of power in China has doubled.
The price of magnesium is now US$9,000/tonne, I'd doubt whether anybody would confuse that with manganese ore.
In the first half of 2021, the price of FeSi shipped CIF Japan was US$1,582/ tonne, and now FeSi prices, closing at US$4,150 / tonne CIF Japan as at Sept 29.
