Previously the barrier was that wall between written on a piece of paper article, then through printing and distributed to your door.

Previously this was a huge wall barrier which required a lot of organizing and funding to make sure the article was delivered to the reader.

Morse code and wire-telegraphy started to chip away the barriers, reducing greatly the cost per word for news stories to travel around the world.

Radio and TV chipped away more of this barrier, as tape recorders became affordable this enterprise breakdown risk remained small, except to other well funded media structure competitors.

The internet totally destroyed previous financial barriers between journalist, news-reporter and reader/viewer, and this revolution adjustment is what the industry is working its way through.

    News shall remain news.

The costs charged for delivering news shall reduce further as existing media providers adjust themselves to these changes.

Many newspapers remain mostly re-prints of circulated stories, which no longer can attract same premiums as previously.

Where not really servicing to supply news their community prepared to pay for their specialist news, why should they continue ?

The change is here, current generation will not need printed media - except where the premium for it is worthwhile.

Text media (formerly print-media) IMHO do service particular sections of wider community, sections prepared to pay for detailed and specific information.

Which premium group does each media supply or service mostly service ?

Some general coverage may be worthwhile, however it shall be specialist interest areas which attract subscribers to where these areas are reported well.

AFR is IMHO correct to include not a lot just some more financial investment information of investments in other countries, as Australian investors becoming more interested so considering investments outside Australia.
