I would agree with the last bit - the writing has been on the wall for newspapers for a long time.
As for who will miss them - you'd be surprised how many other news "sources" in this country relied on the papers to provide their original material. Most of them - radio, TV, the blogs etc. Finding real stories - not PR-fed fluff - in the first place takes time and effort and a good-sized newsroom. Papers could subsidise that. No longer though.
Ever wonder why politicians who pour billions into saving jobs by propping up the car industry don't care a hoot for the thousands of journalists being sacked in recent years? They're glad to see the back of them. Less scrutiny. Easier to get away with more. Likewise anybody with something to hide.
