800K is a fare chunk out of the kitty plus legal fees if they decide to go to court. If this was a company with quite a bit of money I know know if the queensland government would take them to court. They probably trying to break Cougar financially, so they cant stand up in court and prove the corruption of the government, and so Bligh looks like she is doing something for the people. Pretty pathetic if you ask me. Cougar will have to atleast pay a penalty plus regeneration of the land which they already have money aside, apparently. I have no problem with the farmers and land owners, its the government which is totally accountable. They first allowed Cougar to explore the land and issue the permits. And also the government had no official safety guidelines to follow and created them after the incident by using a panel of experts. I just think the government just wants to drag this out in court as long as they can as an election is coming. A friend of mine had lived in Queensland and said the Labor government and Bligh have been a disgrace and done nothing for the people and stuffed things up. Now I understand what he is talking about.
For short term SP may go down a little as this is not good news. And is bad timing as the approvals in China has been pushed back 2 to 3 months. Just have to wait to see Cougars response and the markets reaction. Fun times ahead again :) Keeps you guess this one.
