Having two drive trains is like owning two cars - along with the cost of maintaining two cars and double the risk of breakdown. in any case, your one-day hire experience would not reflect the long-term cost of ownership. This brief popularity of hybrids is merely a stopgap measure while full EV tech improves, gets cheaper (as all electronics do) and charging stations become more prolific. The latter a mistake of Western governments, given China rolled out its charging infrastructure ahead of EV's and made a success of the revolution. There will be a lot of money to be made as the West strives to catch up.
