Maybe, or maybe not.
Australia, China and most of the world (US is a major exception) has to import oil for its petrol.
Reducing the need for oil will improve the balance of trade significantly and the govt could easily decide that is sufficient compensation for the loss of tax revenue.
Note also the price of petrol in Australia is much lower than in most of Europe - so let's see/wait if the Europeans are the first to put taxes on EVs
