That explains another reason why the US govt is half hearted with EVs. As they are among the biggest exporters of oil, so they would not want to worsen their balance of trade.
Also their petrol is much cheaper than here so for potential US buyers of EVs the savings on fuel cost is less significant.
Sad. Fuel excise is a simple way to to set a carbon tax.
