On the issue of price differences between EV, HEV and ICE, I've been comparing my current and previous cars (Corolla Hybrid and Prius C respectively) with the emerging range of small EV passenger cars. I didn't realise how much Toyotas have increased in price since I last bought one about 4 years ago. See 27/3 article linked below. The cheapest Yaris (a hybrid) is now $30,000 and rising. The comparable EVs (MG4, Ora, Dolphin) are $40,000 and falling. Because I have a large amount of surplus solar power, the lower cost of ownership of an EV is already a big factor in my calculations on my next car, and I view this particular section of the market (small passenger car, EV vs HEV/ICE) as roughly the same in terms of value.

The other thing is that I simply like EVs more so I'm actually prepared to pay more for one. But the way things are going, we are heading for that scenario to be flipping: soon you'll have to pay more for an ICE car.

On the downside, I've always liked Japanese cars too (shinnichi desu), and it would be a shame to switch to a Chinese-made one. But the press they've been getting indicates they are catching up faster than the Koreans did in terms of quality, so that too is changing.
