It's interesting isn't it Johnny.
EVs totally make sense for that small/family car segment, and I'm sure will get there with the commercial side as well.
But cost and range aren't the only current shortfalls associated with EV ownership, at least at the moment.
My wife is up for a new car, however we are one of those people that cannot afford to live in a house that has off street parking, nor one with solar panels on the roof. (We also cannot afford to buy a new EV that is actually any good, unless I offload some shares).
To charge at home, of an evening (which is the most convenient time), we'll need to run an extension cord out of the window and across the verge
Whether people want to admit it or not, our situation is the same for A LOT of Australians.
Only the incredibly privileged are able to make this switch seamlessly at the moment, and it's incredibly distasteful to be yelling and judging from their ivory towers at those that cannot.
Funnily enough, the commercial sector is probably best placed to start this.
Any fleet that is required to be parked up at a depot during the evening could likely install chargers and have the whole fleet refuel overnight.
With huge solar systems on the roof to harvest during the day. Employees could also plug their cars in at the depot during the day whilst they are out in the company vehicle.
That sounds like a pretty good scenario.
Although the LDV comparison above suggests there's still a way to go before they can viably be used in this capacity.
