What percentage of those that buy EVs got sucked in with the BS about being "simpler", "easier to work on", and "requiring less maintenance"?
Probably the same people that didn't due their due diligence and calculate the depreciation will not be offsetting any perceived savings with fuel.

I guarantee you, most of those suckers never got the fact that EVs are just as complex, just a different complex.

Whilst an internal combustion engine may have 100's of discrete components, each one can be replaced if/when required.
For the simpler jobs, this can be done by any weekend hack backyarder.

For an EV, the battery module has 1000's of discrete cells, the inter-connections, and supervisory electronic this and to supposedly stop the damn thing from entering thermal runaway. And we all know how that often works out.

A battery module cannot be easily or cheaply replaced in most EVs.
(And don't expect to see those EVs that do feature swappable packs and the battery swap-out stations in the western world anytime soon.)

NSW EVangelists about to get a rude shock!
    As revealed on Monday:

The official course is the AURSS00064 Battery Electric Vehicle Inspection and Servicing Skill Set.

It costs between $1500–$3000 and takes six days to complete, with some education providers advertising it over a four-day period.

It’s not just EV servicing and repair work affected, with hybrids – which also feature a high-voltage battery – also impacted.

The proposed laws state that a tradesperson with certificates in three repair classes, such as electrical accessory fitting work, radiator repair work, and steering, suspension, and wheel alignment work, will also be prohibited from working on hybrid vehicles until they complete a mandatory course, dubbed
Depowering and reinitialising BEVs – AURETH101 Depower and reinitialise battery.

Good luck finding a mechanic in a rural area that can afford to take a working week away from their business to conduct the mandatory course.
Even your own local suburban mechanic will find this difficult.

    Back to the dealer then?
And we already know how exorbitant dealer servicing is.

Too bad if you get a flat, and the EVangelist is too inept to do this themselves.
Do ya reckon all the NRMA roadside assist contractors are going to fork out for this mandatory course just to change your tyre?

At the end of the day, qualified EV techs will be scarce, and guess what that means?

But yeah, EVs are cheaper and simpler to repair.
    You keep telling yourself that.
